 Role:

  • We seek to fill a position from recent PhD/MS graduates in food science. Responsibilities/title will be commensurate with experience and fit with company needs.


Responsibilities:

  • Research Food Scientists are involved in formulation, consumer testing, scale up and commercialization of new food products, line extensions, and product improvements in the areas of dressings and sauces.
  • This is accomplished through design, execution, and interpretation of experiments utilizing a variety of analytical and sensory techniques; evaluation of market research data for category opportunities and product improvement possibilities; analyses of competitive products; translation of kitchen recipe protocepts into commercially viable prototypes; nutritional data analysis; etc.
  • We focus on innovative approaches and solutions to product development, including extensive leverage of outside vendors, suppliers, universities and research centers. 

Qualifications:

  • PhD/MS Food Science or PhD Chemistry or BS/MS Chemical Engineering.
  • Broad and deep product development technical knowledge preferably focused on at least one of these areas: dressings/sauces/condiments, emulsion technology, dairy science & chemistry.
  • Proven track record of driving growth through product innovation.
  • Able to use technical skills to create new product ideas and meet business needs.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence others by championing ideas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with other R&D functions in consumer products - Consumer Research, Product Development, Process Development, etc.
  • Effective interacting on cross-functional teams - Marketing, Sales, Product Supply, etc.
  • Ability to identify, champion and institutionalize new tools, processes and technologies
  • Strong team player
  • Recent Graduates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • You will be performing development activities in a team environment, and interactions with disciplines such as Brand Marketing, Consumer Insights, Sales, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Process Development, Planning, and Manufacturing are an important part of the job.
  • Qualified candidates will have strong analytical, problem solving, and written and verbal communications skills. Your ability to influence across the organization will greatly amplify your impact to the business.
  • A cooperative attitude and the ability to function as part of a larger team are required. Training is provided to increase performance in technical and leadership areas as dictated by project needs and career path.
  • Your ability to quickly develop prototypes on the bench while leveraging culinary and consumer direction will be a critical part of your responsibilities.
  • Experienced in using consumer connection tools, including Drivers of Liking and Consumer Needs Translation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing operations in consumer products.
  • Project Management experience in "fuzzy front end" discovery projects.

Qualified candidates will be technically advanced, highly motivated, self-starters who can apply their skills to diverse, challenging, and practical product problems in a fast-paced team environment.  They will be expected to collaborate with colleagues in a variety of diverse disciplines and functions to deliver business-building solutions.  Some travel may be required.
