This position provides regulatory compliance leadership and support for WhiteWave Foods businesses, working closely with cross-functional partners. Must be able to interpret food labeling regulations and laws and identify viable creative solutions to support innovation and growth.

  • Regulatory compliance and label creation (approximately 70%)
    • Create Nutrition Facts Panels and ingredient lines for all products
    • Provide consumer-facing label reviews and guide Creative team on label design
    • Approve raw material and finished goods specifications
    • Interpret regulations and ensure regulatory compliance
    • Review and approve packaging, advertising and communication materials
    • Register products and submit documentation to state and country regulatory agencies
    • Guide external resources on international labeling regulations
    • Substantiate and align product claims for compliance and ensure documentation in place
    • Manage internal nutrient database by assuring robust nutrient data from suppliers, USDA and chemical analysis
    • Manage non-GMO internal verification process
  • Business Building & Growth (approximately 30%)
    • Influence regulatory direction and drive strategy on cross-functional teams at all points in the stage-gate process
    • Support substantiation of product and nutrition claims and product naming in new areas
    • Collaborate with product developers to evaluate supplier data for new or novel ingredients
    • Monitor food labeling regulatory activity; assess business opportunities and impact to brands
    • Partner with Nutrition to reinforce nutrition strategies and goals
  • All other duties as assigned



Education and Experience:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Food Science, Nutrition or closely related scientific field required. Preference for candidates with an advanced degree such as Masters or PhD.
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in a food labeling and/or regulatory compliance role supporting a CPG Food company required. Candidates with 5-8 years experience strongly desired.
  • Food labeling law certificate and/or certification issued by an accredited university helpful.
  • Prior experience supporting regulatory compliance and food labeling for nutrition focused products (cereals, bars, shakes, infant formula, meals, etc.) and/or supplements preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to interpret U.S. food regulations and strong ability to navigate international labeling regulations required

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of food composition as it relates to food labeling
  • Ability to handle complexity, multiple projects and requests, and short timelines
  • Strong drive for results and ability to bring projects to completion
  • Good judgment, decisiveness, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with labeling databases, computer software and systems
  • Detail oriented, accurate and excellent record keeping skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and problem solving
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
