Food Safety / Quality Assurance Tech - Emeryville, CA




The Food Safety / QA Tech will work closely with the Food Safety / QA Manager and other members of the Food team to ensure the highest quality standards are followed from raw material ordering through to finished dish assembly. Under direction of the Food Safety / QA Manager, this role is responsible to help execute policies and procedures, ensure HACCP plan is followed and updated as needed and work closely with the kitchen team on new projects. The Food Safety / QA Tech will have a strong background in fresh food production, HACCP, training and have a keen eye for detail.Our business is one part science, one part art and will require meticulous planning and cross functional communication to ensure product quality and execution.  Key relationships with other teams include: R&D, Innovation, Operations, Procurement.

Core Responsibilities

       HACCP plan execution and related updates

       HACCP plan record review and follow through with associated corrective actions

       Work closely with procurement on supplier approval process

       Manage documentation requirements for all suppliers/vendors and raw materials

       Data validation of finished products, components, raw materials and allergens

       Development of finished product specs

       Document control

       Assist with development of SOPís and implementation

       Assist with regular facility walkthroughs and reporting of findings to kitchen team and QA Manager

       Assist with kitchen team trainings in relation to food safety and quality

       Member of food safety team

       Management of 3rd party pest control company and sanitation services

       Other QA / Food Safety tasks as necessary


Required Education / Skills / Attributes

        5-6 yearsí experience in food industry. Preferably fresh food processing/manufacturing

        HACCP certified, Seafood HACCP a plus

        Knowledge of basic food safety and microbiology

        Understanding of food hazards and associated risks

        Knowledge of FDA regulations and FSMA

        Must have excellent verbal skills and be able to articulate difficult concepts to staff and follow through to execution

        Excellent computer skills (MS word, Excel and software databases)

        Strong sense of organization and desire to bring process to unstructured environment

        Must be a self-starter with a high-level of perfectionism

        Proven ability to listen, follow precise instructions, and proactively follow-up

        Outside the box thinker

        Thrives in a fast-paced, start-up environment where every day is different

        Role will be 25% office work and 75% in kitchen (exact % may flex depending on workloads and project timelines)
