Gibson Bioscience is currently seeking a Research and
Development Technician to design, perform, and report on supervised
experiments using microbiology and molecular biology techniques leading to
new products or process improvements. This position is generally required
to apply education and work experience to conduct focused research
thoughtfully, collaboratively and efficiently with high integrity. This
position will also assist with development and production of products for
customer requests that do not fall within the scope of any current product
- Assist with development,
manufacturing, quality control (QC) of molecular products and
transfers necessary details to other function units (Production/QC) as
- Perform basic molecular
biology techniques including PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid
quantitation, cloning, nucleic acid
- Perform basic microbiology
techniques including microbial culture, enumeration, isolation, and
identification using traditional and rapid methods.
- Manufacture test lots and
analyzes product performance for R&D functions according to the
appropriate DMR, policies, and procedures.
- Perform new product research
and development under supervision.
- Document research to support
new product design controls, validations, verification, qualification,
and specification/performance and statistical analysis as they apply
to the company’s products and according to policies and procedures
- Fill out and record all
applicable production documentation.
- Assist with development and
production of products for customer requests that do not fall within
the scope of any current product lines and/or requires the capability
of the department.
- Write or review new
department SOPs/update existing department SOPs as necessary.
- Collaborate, support, and
communicate on a regular basis with project teams and members of other
functional areas. Communicate with customers regarding results and
custom specifications when necessary.
The tasks of this position generally requires duties
to be performed by:
- Occasionally lift and move up
to 25 pounds to above shoulder height unaccompanied.
- Regularly stand/walk or sit
for duration of shift.
- Occasionally required to
stoop, climb, or balance.
- Coordinated use of hands and
fingers to grasp, feel objects, transfer small items from one hand to
another, fine manipulation, and bilateral reach with arms.
- Use of close vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Four year degree in relevant
field (e.g., biology, microbiology, virology, cell biology molecular
biology, food science) required.
- At least 1 year hands-on
experience working with cell culture or microorganisms.
- Knowledgeable on aseptic
- Knowledgeable with
formulations and basic chemistry techniques.
- Familiar with basic molecular
biology techniques (cloning, PCR, primer design, etc.)
- Familiar with various public
databases for retrieving publications or nucleotide sequences.
