We are looking for a Sr. Application Technologist in the Bakery Innovation section of the DuPont Nutrition and Health division (formerly Danisco). The role and is based in New Century, Kansas. The primary role of this position is to develop bakery ingredient mixes, test the mixes in various baking applications at the lab scale, and oversee testing of the mix at the production scale.

 

We are looking for an outstanding candidate with skills and knowledge in food enzyme applications who would like to work with our team to bridge the gaps between basic enzyme research and food applications to provide superior and sustainable solutions for the food industry. This position will support our work in the bakery innovation area.

 

The incumbent will coordinate projects with his/her supervisor and prepare and present reports of results. In addition he or she will keep up-to-date on trends, new technical developments and competitor’s activities by monitoring applications for processing systems and ingredients in applicable areas.



Qualifications

  • The applicant should have 5-8 years’ experience developing ingredient mixes for bakery products and hold a minimum of a B.S. or M.S. in bakery science, food science or have equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience should be with a wide variety of yeast raised and chemically leavened products including bread, buns, bagels, cakes, biscuits, donuts, tortillas, etc.
  • The applicant should have a working knowledge of the application of enzymes, emulsifiers and hydrocolloids as well as other basic bakery ingredients or be willing to learn.
  • In addition, significant experience running field trials in bakery settings is preferred.
  • The position involves interaction with large wholesale bakeries and other food companies. Customer interaction may involve technical sales, technical service and/or training.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required. The position will also involve interfacing with other functional areas within DuPont including sales, technical service and marketing.
  • Further, the applicant should have good basic scientific capabilities including experimental design, statistical analysis of data and ability to work with standard computer programs such as Excel.
