Position Summary: Under limited supervision researches, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization.  Contributes to the creation, maintenance, and review of integrated recipes for new or existing items that include: specifications, materials, formulas, equipment, quality and process information for R&D, plant, co-pakers and suppliers.  Develops project timelines, creates technical proposals and reports and makes recommendations.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Formulate products to achieve nutritional profile, ingredient statement, and product attributes of the target product.
  • Processes product recipe changes and maintain accurate records of change.
  • Develop finished product and processing specifications, including creation of integrated recipes using SAP, ARAS, Oracle, GENESIS, Product Vision, or other programs as needed, as well as the process for the manufacture of product.
  • Develops plan to collect analytical data to support NLEA Labeling requirements, and implements nutritional labeling claims or certification processes as needed on new or existing products.
  • Creates product development schedules that are required to meet project timelines.
  • Conduct plant trials and new product start-ups independently
  • Collaborates with cross functional team including sales, marketing, finance, packaging and brand design, procurement, and manufacturing.

 

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Food Science or related field required. MS preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience
  • Experience in Product Development or related field in a Food Company required
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Good understanding of food industry standards of quality and foods safety, and FDA regulations.
  • Experience in cereal science, with milling and pasta experience preferred.
  • Ability to independently manage project work.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals.
  • Up to 25% travel including flying in US, possibly overseas.  Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible ConAgra Foods, Inc. representative.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Walking and/or standing on various surface types
  • Lifting (note approximate weight and frequency, e.g. ability to lift 25 lbs on a regular basis, ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a sporadic basis)
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis.
  • Pushing/pulling
  • Cramped/confined space
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include:  loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
  • Dirt, fumes, smoke
  • smells/allergies
  • food/eating
  • Frequent bending and/or crawling; must be able to move safely and freely around machinery
  • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 5 hours as needed
