Based in our Geneva, IL headquarters facility, the Food Safety Systems Analyst manages and maintains processes and systems necessary for compliance to all product safety regulations and the maintenance of the SQF Level 3 certification. Certification is based on performance of hazard analysis for product safety and quality on raw materials, intermediates and finished products, annual reviews, internal auditing, detailed interaction with the operations team and broader organization, and microbiological monitoring programs (including the sampling of the environment, raw materials, intermediates and finished products to include the delineation of testing requirements and interpretation of all associated data to meet FONA International and customer requirements.) Responsibilities encompass both product safety and quality. This position may be assigned to off shift hours (second or third shift or a combination of both) and to work on weekends if needed.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Maintains the Food Safety Systems including HACCP plans, Quality plans, prerequisite programs, microbiological and allergen monitoring programs, critical control point and critical quality point oversight.
  • Reviews and revises FONA Product Safety & Quality Policies and Procedures, including microbiology sampling protocols and allergen management programs to meet changes in customer requirements or regulations.
  • Generates Certificates of Analysis to meet all customer requirements in a timely and precise manner.
  • Tracks trending, and reacts to results.
  • Maintenance and root cause analysis to include problem solving activities with other departments within the organization as appropriate.
  • Verifies critical quality point information and appropriate corrective actions and preventive measures related to testing programs in place.
  • Coordinates with operations to conduct preoperational inspections and sampling.
  • Interpretates and implements changes to regulations or GFSI compliance requirements.
  • Disseminates data to the department and operations team as a tool for continuous improvement activities.
  • Generat ofes key performance indicator data on a regular basis.
  • Implementes new programs and procedures throughout the organization to meet the changing needs of customers, regulators, auditors, and internal requirements.
  • Builds and maintains business working relationships with third party testing laboratories.
  • Documentation and recordkeeping.

A designated trained employee shall be assigned by the Director, Quality Systems as a back-up for this position on an as needed basis. This may include Food Safety Lead, Environmental Analyst, PS&Q Analytst depending on level of training.

Experience and Skills:

Education: Bachelors Degree in Sciences (biology, chemistry, food science, etc.) or equivalent experience.

Work Experience: 1-5 years food industry experience

  • Knowledge of and experience with Food Safety Systems including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microbiology including environmental sampling programs and aseptic technique required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) bench marked schemes (preferably Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Knowledge of and experience with allergen control programs and methods desirable.
  • Experience with root cause problem solving tools and corrective action and preventative measure programs desirable.
  • Ability to implement simple to moderately complex projects with little to no supervison.
