Description and Responsibilities:

The Flavorist Trainee plays a key role in flavor sales growth, flavor creation, and flavor library and raw material library maintenance by supporting Kerry Flavorists in project work. The trainee will help the flavorist to support customers by compounding flavors in liquid and powdered formats, Learning by mentored training, organoleptic evaluation, experimentation and literature review will help the Trainee to gain a wide breadth of knowledge in flavor creation, project management, sensory evaluation and flavor application.


Key Responsibilities


  • Study and perform organoleptic testing of raw materials daily as part of ongoing training to be a flavorist
  • Compound a broad range of flavors such as simple mixtures, extracts, emulsions, and powder blends in support of sample requests and project needs to fulfill briefs
  • Spray dry flavors in support of sample requests and project needs
  • Perform physical, chemical, and organoleptic testing and analysis of flavors
  • Work with analytical group for flavor matching projects
  • Collaborate with applications group on projects as needed
  • Train on relevant regulatory and labeling requirements for flavors
  • Meet with raw material suppliers to learn about new raw materials to introduce into the system
  • Support senior flavorists on various flavor projects both internal and external
  • Work with cross functional team to optimize the strengths of Kerry and deliver the best Taste and Nutrition experience for our customers
  • Participate in sensory panels and other developmental opportunities
  • Process the raw materials and finished flavors through the different Kerry systems to maintain active status
  • Maintain inventory of raw materials and lab supplies
  • Maintain lab organization
  • Attend relevant industry events and seminars to further flavor training
  • Continually study and learn the different aspects of flavor chemistry as established in the syllabus of the Society Of Flavor Chemists







         Bachelor degree in Food Science, Life Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

         2-5 years of experience within related industry

         Additional course work or seminar in flavor creations, flavor analysis, flavor applications.



         2 years of experience in a flavor laboratory, or related experience

         Good background in organic chemistry, food chemistry, flavor applications.

         Good math skills for problem-solving calculations.

         Demonstrates strong and discerning sense of smell and taste.


         2 years of experience with Kerry

         Additional internship completed at a flavor or food company.












         Demonstrates passion for flavor creations

         Comfortable in a chemical laboratory setting exposed to strong odors and standing for long periods of time.

         Ability to work with cross-functional teams at multi levels within the organization.

         Demonstrates professionalism

         Good interpersonal and communication skills.
