Job Summary:

The FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY SPECIALIST is involved in all aspects of quality and food safety including but not limited to audits, HACCP program evaluation, GMP, SOP, SSOP HACCP and SQF training, sanitation evaluation, insect and rodent control, purchasing supplies, working with operations personnel on quality and safety issues, inspecting incoming products, customer complaints, implementing policies and procedures and evaluating new equipment installation or repair. Reports to the General Farm Manager. In event of this person absence, coverage will be provided by Compliance Assistant and/or General Farm Manager.
Job Duties:

  • Coordinates quality assurance activities and provide technical assistance and training to personnel.
  • Monitors and verifies company quality plans to include, but not limited to HACCP, Food Quality and SQF plans and assures documents required by regulatory are properly reviewed and filed.
  • Conducts GMP and sanitation audits of operations and warehouse areas.
  • Works with operations personnel on quality and food safety issues and verifies operations control systems are functional and being followed.
  • Evaluates and dispositions damaged products and coordinates resolution of customer complaints as necessary.
  • Acts as point person for audits (internal, regulatory and customer).
  • Assists in trouble-shooting quality related issues
  • Acts as back-up for General Farm Manager for quality related matters in their absence.
  • Supervises Production Quality personnel, Compliance Assistant and Lab .
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • B.S. degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field is preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in the food industry.
  • 1 year supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Working knowledge and experience with SQF and HACCP.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Thorough understanding of Statistical Process Control and elementary statistical analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in data collection and data sharing
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work as a member of and/or lead cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan over an extended time and prepare action plans to achieve results.
