Purpose of Role

This position is responsible for designing and implementing product ideas and processes throughout the product development cycle with a great emphasis on project management.  This position requires the ability to manage projects, provide training and expertise, lead and influence small teams in a variety of settings including bench top, pilot plant and manufacturing.  Key skills include a solid technical knowledge of food and food processes, desire to make relevant and creative prototypes, strong problem solving and ability to analyze and recommend solutions, excellent interpersonal, mathematical, verbal and written communication skills.


Another facet of this position is to keep abreast of new technologies and global initiatives to assure the consideration and transfer of the most up to date processes, methodologies and techniques.


Principal Accountabilities

·         Design, develop and implement new recipe/process and production from bench top to commercial plant scale up.

·         Design and develop to make relevant and creative prototypes throughout the development process using consumer insight expertise.

·         Provide training and share expertise with other associates in their skills development

·         Improve, maintain and update current recipes, raw material and quality specifications using the current computer systems.  Includes training new associates on current systems.

·         Design, implement shelf-life studies, analytical and sensory testing to ensure the products are maintained.  Ability to interpret results and recommend action plan based on data.

·         Recommend, create and assemble pilot processes based on product design specification.   Document experiments and determine/validate process parameters for the manufacture of a wide range of products.

·         Present technical understanding in both written and presentation formats of food science/engineering and the supporting sub-process for the manufacture of food systems.

·         Demonstrate a basic understanding of current business processes and their application to this position.

·         Demonstrate ability to think creatively and to apply these ideas during recipe development.

·         Ability to document, organize and summarize project results through verbal and written communications.

·         Ability and aptitude to work in an R&D, Manufacturing, and/or Distribution environment

·         Must be able to lift 50 lb. (22.7 kg)

·         Must be able to walk and stand for extended times during an 8 hr shift

·         Travel to other Mars's sites and vendors required 15 - 40%, may include international travel


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering
