The Sensory Technician is responsible for the implementation of sensory conformance program requirements. In partnership with the National Office Sensory Scientist, develop and implement site specific innovations to assure product quality and conformance. As a Research & Development (R&D) resource, this position requires working closely with Product Development, Process Development, Supply, Engineering and Commercial to identify the most cost effective solution yielding consistent product quality and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute Conformance Program’s Best Practices and Minimum Requirements
  • Working in partnership with the National Office Sensory Scientist, develop and implement innovations in assuring sensory conformance.
  • Manage site based conformance and on-line sensory programs/testing – recruiting, training and calibrating associates.
  • Improve processes and systems through innovation, effective change control, research, and auditing.
  • Support additional Mars Chocolate North America Business Unit activities with Flex Supply and Supplier Quality Assurance by providing product conformance support.
  • Ensure proper sampling of incoming materials
  • Complete testing for incoming materials
  • Management of inbound raw materials SAP QI releases

 

Key Requirements:  

  • Working knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, macros, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience using a computer data handling system for input, storage, manipulation and analysis of data.
  • Ability and aptitude to work in an R&D, Manufacturing, and/or Distribution environment.
  • Effective ability to influence without authority.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the detailed path of raw materials and finished products through the Manufacturing operations.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to schedule and prioritize daily work to assure meeting deadlines.
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively. Must be able to adapt to unplanned priority changes while maintaining consistent, high quality work standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as function as an effective team member.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to think and work independently, to initiate projects and bring them to completion
  • Product conformance to standard
  • Acceptability of raw materials
  • Associate competency for product evaluations
  • Disposition of non-conforming raws, in-process, and finished products.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field (Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related sciences)  
  • In lieu of degree you may substitute Bachelor's degree with some college courses in science or engineering discipline with 3+ years of technical experience in food manufacturing
  • 1 year work experience in R&D, Manufacturing or Sensory positions. Course work in Sensory Evaluation, Panel Leadership, Spectrum® Method for Descriptive Analysis, equivalent work experience in related areas desired
  • Work experience in Sensory Evaluation, Quality Control, Analytical, Product Development and/or Manufacturing
  • Ability to identify flavor, odor and texture
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team setting
  • Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field (Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related sciences)  
  • Experience with SAP raw material management system
  • Experience as a Conformance Panelist and/or Descriptive Panelist
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate a team
  • Strong knowledge of sensory practices and protocols
