If your answer is yes, Lancaster Food is hiring for an Assistant Food Safety Manager who possess strong attention to detail, enjoy conducting experiments, have previous experience with food whether in the restaurant or warehouse industry, and are a team player.

 

SUMMARY

This Assistant Food Safety Manager directly assists the Food Safety Manager by supervising the Food Safety and Sanitation Departmentís employees while also ensuring that the food safety system at the plant is properly written, documented, and implemented - thus ensuring regulatory compliance (HACCP, FDA, SQF) and the production of safe, quality, and wholesome produce.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The Assistant Food Safety Manager supervises all Food Safety Specialists, FS Technicians, Sanitation Crew Leads, and Sanitation Technicians; to include hiring, training, counseling, and recommending discharge when necessary. Acts as the Food Safety Manager in the absence of the FS Manager.
  • The Assistant Food Safety Manager ensures that all Food Safety programs are functioning as designed, being followed by all appropriate personnel, and also being correctly documented. Further, that all programs in place are valid and following all legal as well as audit format requirements.
  • The Assistant Food Safety Manager must be able to quickly, yet thoroughly, investigate a product/process failure to determine the root cause as well as what corrective actions are needed.
  • The Assistant Food Safety Manager must be thoroughly versed in 3rd party Food Safety Audits as well as be prepared to be the primary contact in the event that the Food Safety Manager is unavailable.
  • Must quickly gain an understanding of all of our safety policies and procedures and be able to express those policies to others as needed.
  • The Assistant Food Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the cleanliness of the warehouse is maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • Bachelorís Degree required in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Sciences, or other applicable discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience. At least three years of supervisory experience.
  • Must demonstrate proficient PC skills.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  •  Experience working with relational databases, statistical programs, and other tools to compile and interpret quantitative data.
  • Experience with audits such as GFSI (SQF), FDA, MDA etc.
  • Expert knowledge developing/implementing SOPís, SSOPís, HACCP, GMP/GDP & GAPís
  • Must be familiar with environmental (microbiological) requirements/testing procedures and trace-back/recall program.
  • Experience in the fresh cut fruit/vegetable industry or other ready-to-eat food experience required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit. Typically bends, lifts, carries, reaches/extends arms and hands above shoulder height occasionally, or otherwise moves in a constantly changing environment. 
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours a day and to climb steps regularly. 
  • Withstanding temperature extremes in indoor (freezing temperatures) and outdoor environments. 
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.
  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in fast-paced environment.
  • Normal hearing and vision. 
  • Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.
