Position Summary: Maintains and directs testing of wheat, flour, and co-products in the lab to meet all customer specifications. Facilitates all food safety initiatives and within the customer base requirements.
Essential Job Duties:

  • Maintains calibration of lab equipment through wet chemistry tests.
  • Maintains calibration of lab equipment through the use of outside vendors.
  • Keeps customer specifications up to date.
  • Performs as the HACCP Coordinator, AIB trained and continued training.
  • SQF Practitioner and continued training.
  • Performs as the team leader for food safety.
  • Administers application of all lab testing.
  • Oversees customer complaint record-keeping and provides responses.
  • Directs and manages lab technician position(s).
  • Answers customer quality and food safety questions with internal collaboration. Maintains contracts.
  • Oversees employee(s) while most of the time performing the same or directly related work as those being supervised.

Non-Essential Job Duties:

  • Performs various lab tests and post results.
  • Submits samples to customers for approval.
  • Submits samples to various outside labs for analysis and post results.
  • Participates in annual stream analysis of mills.
  • Submits and manages customer documentation.
  • Creates and manages COA’s.

High School diploma or GED.
Bachelor’s degree related to food production, chemistry, or applied sciences preferred.
Certification in HACCP, SQF, BRC, or training related to the Food Plant Food Safety Programs.
Two (2) years of practical lab experience performing required testing.
Two years of chemistry or flour mill lab experience, SQF certification, HACCP trained preferred.

  • Place accuracy of results at a very high level.
  • Persistence in following quality and food safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with analytical data.
  • Motivated to learn with a strong work ethic.
  • Determines if equipment is calibrated and determines when changes in calibrations needs to be made.
  • Ability to know when to counsel and coach team members for lapses in food safety measures.
  • Knows when to place product on hold based on knowledge of the specific measures for food safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to make decisions that places the product on hold, and giving disposition of product to food, feed, or trash as necessary.
