Product Development Scientist Global Wet Products - Saint Louis, MO





Plan, organize and develop products, processes, experiments, and trials from idea inception through all stages of development under minimal supervision.


1. Plan, organize and perform the necessary trials and experiments as required to deliver in a timely manner the development projects that meet the requirements of the client companies and GSBU

2. Provide product and technical input and assistance within the R&D Network and externally (e.g., with Marketing, Manufacturing, vendors) as required on a wide variety of projects

3. Participate and contribute as a member of cross-functional teams as assigned. Interface on project implementation teams by assisting with hand-off from development through start-up and providing operational training as required.

4. Function as a project team leader as assigned. Required activities include, but are not limited to:

• Providing effective project leadership for the projects assigned

• Fulfilling all requirements of the StageGate/Product Development Process and Nestec regarding “absolute” deliverables for each phase

• Complete all required documentation and project reporting in a timely manner culminating in delivery of the Preliminary Manufacturing Dossier

• Adhering to Company policy on protection of patent rights and intellectual property

• Ensuring all appropriate documents and project records are filed in the Central Project Files, whether paper or electronic

5. Effectively communicate results of development through oral presentations and timely, written technical documentation and reports

6. Conduct all activity in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all required Company policies and procedures

7. Travel as necessary

8. Practice safety in the work area




• Develop Nestlé Purina’s core competence in all areas of wet pet food product development

• Demonstrate technical leadership by searching for new opportunities to develop products to meet the needs of the global Nestlé Purina business

• Maintain and improve upon the communications between R&D and external contacts

• Keep current in scientific discipline

• Continue development of personal project leadership skills

• Establish and maintain good relationships with vendors, universities and counterparts at other Nestlé operations

• Training of personnel from the client companies and within the R&D Network as required

• Additional duties as assigned



• Project leadership as required for assigned projects


JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):


• M.S. in Food Science, Meat Science or related discipline, PhD preferred

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in product  development: food industry experience

• Good sense of business/technical interrelationships

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Must be able to manage multiple projects/priorities

• Good organizational skills

• Computer literacy

• Pro-active/Self-Starter



• Excellent knowledge of grain science, meat science and protein chemistry

• Advanced food processing experience

• Global mobility.(AOA, LATAM, Europe)
