•Creatively collaborate with the
Executive Food Director and Food Editors during brainstorming sessions
to conceive, refine, and deliver recipes that accurately reflect each
project’s individual concept, as well as the Brand’s vision.
•Develop original recipes for Oxmoor House book
projects and branded projects, such as Cooking Light, Southern Living,
Sunset, Real Simple, Food & Wine, All*You, etc. within deadlines.
Develop recipes according to each brand’s style sheets.
•Test, annotate, and modify recipes for all Oxmoor
House and branded projects, such as Cooking Light, Southern Living,
Sunset, Real Simple, Food & Wine, All*You, etc.
Collaborate with Executive Food Director and team to establish best
testing practices and discuss pertinent details of recipes and any problems
incurred. Provide solutions to problems encountered. Consult with foods
editors throughout testing process to deliver accurate recipes that are on
target for each project. Actively participate in evaluation of recipes
other than those personally tested.
•Proofread edited recipes for accuracy before submission to editors.
•Stay abreast of current cooking trends and competition through cookbooks,
magazines, and websites to ensure our recipes for each brand are of the
highest possible standards. Create inspiration books and research folders
for each new project.
•Maintain knowledge and familiarity with each brand’s style sheets
(Cooking Light Southern Living…etc).
Individual styles must be applied to each brand in each stage of a recipe-
development, testing, and editing.
•Prepare and creatively style food for
photography, if required. Work closely with photographer and stylist to
create beautiful, eye-appealing images. Take the lead in garnishing and
presentation ideas. Effectively manage time to insure all prep work is
completed and communicate with photo team concerning schedule of shots on
each photo day. Make appropriate notes on recipes about any changes made to
recipe during photography.
•Additional Duties include writing up weekly
market order list, shopping for groceries, checking off available
inventory, and maintaining order in the pantry, refrigerators, and
freezers. Maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
B.S. in Food-related field or Culinary Arts Degree .
Restaurant or other food professional experience: 2 to 4 years
demonstrated cooking experience. Previous test kitchen/publishing experience
appreciated but not mandatory
Solid food science knowledge.
Attention to detail and organizational skills essential
Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple projects concurrently,
and meet deadlines
Flexibility: comfortable with fast-paced, changing priorities.
