1. JOB PURPOSE
Assists in directing a statewide inspection
operations and inspection workforce. Act as Director if deemed
necessary. Provides input in developing meat and poultry inspection program
and policies and procedures that fully comply with Federal and State laws and
regulations. Ensures meat and poultry products processed under State
inspection are safe, wholesome and accurately labeled. Serves as State
Emergency Response Team member for Animal Emergency Response. Perform other
duties as assigned.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
INSPECTION PROGRAM MGT.
Provides input in developing policies, rules and procedures applicable to
enforcement of meat and poultry inspection laws and regulations. Directs and
conducts a pre»operational and operational
sanitation inspection program and hazard analysis critical point system of
assigned food processing plants to ensure that food products are safe,
wholesome and properly labeled. E/40%
INSPECTION PROGRAM PERSONNEL
Directs inspection personnel in a multi»county area
in performing antemortem and postmortem
examinations of food animals to prevent food diseased and adulterated tissues
from entering the food chain for human consumption. Develops recommendations
for the Director. E/20%
PRODUCT TESTING MANAGEMENT
Monitors product testing required by the pathogen reduction program. Manages
the Public Health Information System to ensure an accurate and timely
database. Prepares reports for the Director. E/20%
STATE EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Serves as a State Emergency Response Team member for the Emergency Response
Function #17, providing animal emergency response at the South Carolina
Management Division during exercises and actual emergencies. E/10%
TRAINING & PROFESSIONAL
Assists the Director in preparing training programs for inspection staff in
all areas of inspection. Attends meetings and conferences to stay abreast of
developments in veterinary pathology, public health, and related administrative
Graduate of AVMA»accredited school of veterinary
medicine with Master's in veterinary pathology or related field or graduate
with 4 years experience in pathology, public health
or meat inspection.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to
use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations.

reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans
