The Food Safety Specialist leads implementation and verification of HACCP and Food Safety Programs as defined by GNP Food Safety Policies for the processing facility.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned


Lead implementation and verification of HACCP and Food Safety Programs as defined by GNP Food Safety Policies for the processing facility as the site SQF Practitioner. Conduct and maintain technical assessments and risk assessments in support of food safety programs (HACCP & Pre-requisite programs).  Maintain consistent formats and documentation for food safety programs (ex. HACCP, SSOP, Risk assessments).


Collaborate with process manager, process engineers, and location process owners to ensure food safety processes are validated and routinely verified for effectiveness.  Assist with exploratory sampling to further understand food safety risk in products and processes as part of our continuous improvement focus.


Provide technical support and ensure compliance for sanitation monitoring program. Serve as technical liaison with sanitation provider.


Provide and verify food safety education to all facility team members.  Provide education, training, and verification for FSQR activities related to food safety.


Continuously improve technical skills in food safety and understanding of food microbiology, epidemiology and food hygiene matters.



EXPECTATIONS – all Team Members

·        Observe & enforce all company personnel, quality, safety, and food safety policies.

·        Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you work effectively and cooperatively with customers, clients, coworkers, and leadership teams.

·        Participates in process improvement and problem solving utilizing continuous improvement and rational thinking methodologies such as Six Sigma, and participates in or supports the E$P program



·        Bachelor’s Degree in Food safety or Microbiology or other closely related field required; Masters Degree preferred

·        3 to 5 years of previous experience required

·        HACCP and SQF Certified preferred

·        Advanced analytical skills

·        Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, and Excel.  Also Infinity and Minitab

·        Knowledge of HACCP, Sanitation, GMP, Pathogen Environmental Monitoring, and Facility / Equipment Design

·        Knowledge of General and Microbiology Laboratory Techniques with awareness of rapid test methods

·        Awareness of food safety and quality systems/processes/auditing

·        Experience with validation of Critical Control Points (CCPs)

·        Excellent communication skills (presentation, report writing)

·        Fundamental knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS)

·        Ability to coordinate resources
