Food Scientist with Snack Food Sales and New Product
Festida Foods located in Grand Rapids, MI
is a developer and large volume private label manufacturer of premium corn
tortilla chips, corn chips, and pellet snacks. Festida
manufactures products which are sold through many of the major retailers
and club stores in the US and Canada. The company has been in business in
excess of 20 years, and is privately and locally owned.
Festida is seeking to hire an experienced food
scientist with a background that includes salty snack foods or snack
components, and verifiable experience in sales as related to product
development of items such as tortilla chips, corn chips, extruded snacks,
popcorn, and/or potato chips.
Main purpose of job:
Working with the Director of Product Development and
with current or prospective new customers to develop new products from
concept to launch, or improve or change existing products currently in the
market to meet customer expectations. This job includes both R&D as
well as technical sales activities. Occasional travel may be required.
- New product concept creation
- Technical/Sales: Demonstrate
technical leadership by searching for new opportunities to develop new
products to meet the needs of existing or potential new customers.
- Ability to manage moderate to
complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Develop information for
product/ingredient specifications, in-process control points and
- Coordinate and conduct pilot
plant trials and factory scale trials. Must be able to effectively
trouble shoot and offer plausible, executable solutions.
- Create accurate and complete
nutritional panels, ingredient lists, and allergen notifications using
- Project Management: Create
project direction by providing technical input through the planning
and decision making process and effectively communicating with senior
management and the customer.
- Able to identify risk, road
blocks, critical path and resolve project conflicts or delays quickly.
- May supervise a technician or
other support staff.
Minimum 5 years applicable Food Science, Technical
Food Sales, Snack R&D, or related discipline.
- Bachelors Degree with 5+ years of
applicable Food Science experience, or
- Masters Degree with 3+ years of
applicable Food Science experience
Working Knowledge of:
- Nutritional analysis and
panel creation using software such as Genesis, Owl, or Formulator.
- Basic lab testing techniques
for Oil content, Moisture, Sodium, and PDQ.
- Must be proficient with
Microsoft suite software such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
- Technical food sales and
ability to work with customers. Snack food
experience a plus.
- R&D project management,
documentation, and closure.
- General culinary and cooking
techniques. A basic interest in cooking is helpful.
- Familiar with snack food
ingredients such as milled grains, ancient grains, vegetables,
nutritional additives, natural flavorings, and seasonings.
- Good understanding of All Natural,
Gluten Free, Non-GMO, and Kosher certifications.
- Proper interaction and
ability to successfully work with customers, vendors, and potential
new customers from the perspective of either product development
- Proven track record to manage
projects through to completion and success.
- Must be able to manage
multiple projects/priorities – Good organizational skills.
- Basic plant and food safety
requirements: GMP’s, HACCP, BRC/SQF.
