 Primary purpose of the role (What is the value added by this role, the overall aim, the reason that this role is required)

The QA Team Leader would be responsible for providing expertise and leadership in a large and complex distribution center operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They would focus their efforts on ensuring that the incoming and outgoing products (fruits and vegetables) conform to quality and regulatory parameters including HACCP and TCL food safety requirements.

Due to the needs of the business the successful candidate will be required to work a flexible shift which includes working overnights, or shifts starting at 4:00am, throughout the week.



 Key Accountabilities (What are the main responsibilities of the role, against which performance is measured)

Customer

Call for inspection as necessary and collect samples as needed (federal or surveyor)

Comply with all Quality Control operating protocols

Ensure all product handling is in compliance with all quality control parameters, regulations, HACCP and TCL food safety requirements

Ensure compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations

Inspect all produce items upon arrival at the warehouse, per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), to determine if they are in compliance with TCL standards and customer specifications

Ensure that all incoming and outgoing product meets strict quality standards

Select and evaluate random samples to determine percentage of defects, size/count parameters, package and pallet integrity, pulp and trailer temperatures and overall appearance of product

Ensure that pressure tests, refractometer tests and weight tests are completed on products as required and document results

Monitor on-hand inventory on a daily basis and communicate condition of product in storage to the Inventory Control team

Identify quality or temperature problems in shipments

Collaborate and consult with buyers and customers on a daily basis

Provide timely and clear communication on all inspections

Advise buyers of deteriorating quality of goods in storage in a timely fashion

Maintain constant communication and working relationships with warehouse Team Members

Identify and communicate problems in a timely manner to minimize losses

Assist buyers in their day to day functions

Ensure instruments and tools are maintained in good working condition and clean

Monitor banana and avocado ripening processes, as applicable

Other duties as required



Process

Collaborate with the regional sites to share in safety, labour sharing and best practice initiatives

Plan, manage, and adjust the daily workload and staffing to minimize the unplanned overtime

Maximizes quality and productivity by understanding job standards for each function, and evaluating performance variances in order to identify root cause and corrective action

Participate in the collection of performance measurements consistent with customer, vendor, and site requirements

Ensure shift/daily/weekly workload planning and volume forecasting routines are accomplished (i.e. staffing, equipment, space)

Participate in the completion of workshop action plans, projects and best practice sharing/implementation

To complete other tasks as assigned.

 

Decision Making Authority (The extent of the role holder’s authority to make decisions without referral to a higher authority)

In accordance with the approved level of authority as assigned by company policy (i.e. procurement, staffing adjustments, deployment)

Customer/vendor requests are limited to the contract restrictions and agreed budget

To approve overtime and staffing specifically related to the completion of the daily workload

Incremental purchases against previously established purchase orders and the creation of extraordinary purchase orders for routine purchases (including capital expenditures)

 

Performance Indicators (What criteria will be used to assess performance)

Operational Performance metrics such as: on-time shipping, on-time receipt, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, % overtime, safety incident rate and other items as identified by site / customer scorecard – (To be defined in detail by the operations performance team)

Completion of workshop/project action items: compliance, on-time completion, within budget

Promote and achieve compliance with associate initiatives such as: 1) delivery of performance reviews and training; 2) shift turnover – attainment of targeted level; 3) site interaction matrix; 4) associate opinion survey site action plans; and 5) safety (compliance with audits, accident/injury

rate, recognition, committee activity)
