The Quality Assurance Specialist devises, implements and oversees all plant quality assurance and control programs, practices and procedures in support of established production standards and company business objectives. They are a professional /single contributor role within a plant environment and have no direct reports.  They may also implement and oversee safety and environmental programs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Will support and encourage the implementation and continuous improvement of the GREIF Production System. 
  • May support and maintain the Food Safety Certification program and fulfill the role of SQF (Safe Quality Foods) practitioner for the plant.
  • Designs, institutes, and documents quality assurance programs.
  • May design, institute, and document safety and environmental programs, including Food Safety assurance.
  • Advises plant management on all quality related issues (may include environmental and safety related issues). 
  • Measures customer satisfaction and takes corrective action as appropriate. 
  • Implements “just in time” techniques to ensure quality levels remain high and consistent.
  • Performs periodic testing and documents results for certification and compliance purposes.
  • Advises and consults with plant management on all continuous improvement and quality/safety related issues (may include environmental related issues).
  • Develops reports as required by management.
  • Ensures compliance in the safe handling of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments and outside functions.
  • Incorporates and maintains safety observances, including but not limited to, use of all PPE by employees, ensuring guards and safety features are working, and promoting good daily safety practices and habits.
  • May be responsible to ensure that the GREIF Production System is being effectively deployed throughout the plant, initiate, plan and assist in the execution of improvement activities.
  • May be required to monitor adherence to established safety standards. 
  • Recommends and implements changes as needed.
  • May assist in training on Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelors degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 4+ years experience in quality assurance/control in a production setting.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communications.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work with various testing equipment.
  • Fundamental understanding of a plant manufacturing operation.
  • Fundamental understanding of computer operation and software.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and ISO 9000 standards.
  • Must also have the ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team.
