GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Works collaboratively across all
functional areas and most particularly with manufacturing to develop,
implement, and coordinate product assurance programs designed to prevent
defects in new and existing products. Measures effectiveness of quality
processes through various assessments continuously adjusting with new data
and implementing plans and programs to improve overall performance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Fosters and maintains strong
collaborative working alliances with all departments, the most
significant of which is with manufacturing cultivating processes and
standards that are repeatable as well as cost/quality efficient.
- Assesses and analyzes products
and new products from a quality standpoint evaluating production
capabilities, manufacturing problems, design and development.
- Develops new processes and
quality standards to ensure that the organization is in compliance and
operates in advance of possible issues impacting FDA, USDA and other
- Responsible for contributing to
processes that will ensure consistent and effective communication as
well as smooth transition when new product processes connect with
- Coordinates with Product
Development and Engineering to resolve issues relating to quality
assurance of new products designed and manufactured products to
rectify/prevent problems particularly internal and external
- Suggests and debates
alternative methods and procedures in solving problems and meeting
changing market opportunities. Coordinates cost reduction programs
by collaborating cross-functionally with Product Development, Purchasing
- Teams with other top management
personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating
procedures, and goals.
- Develops initial and subsequent
modifications of product assurance programs to determining areas of
responsibility, personnel requirements and operational procedures within
- Determines reporting
requirements and evaluates contents of reports from the department while
apprising top management of overall quality of products.
- Participates in management
meetings with department heads to communicate, refine and review quality
program results and issues recommending and implementing changes as
- Review technical problems and
procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or
changes to procedures to improve impact of quality standards.
- Meets with representatives of
material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality,
capacity of vendor to meet orders, and vendor quality standards.
- Meets with customers and
auditors to discuss Barber Foods quality programs and processes as they
relate to our products.
- Develop subordinates by
providing quality leadership, training and evaluation. Develop the
Quality organization utilizing talent within and cross-functionally to
create continuity and adherence to continuous improvement standards.
- Reviews technical publications,
articles and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must be proficient with ERP
- Strong math and statistical
- Strong PC skills.
- Able to travel up to 3-weeks
- Knowledge and experience with
both USDA/FDA regulations and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
pertaining to animal protein.
- Ability to communicate
effectively with peer group and all levels of management.
- Ability to organize data and
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelorís degree in a food science
discipline or equivalent industry experience.
