Job Description

Position Description:

Perform Food Safety and Sanitation audits in stores to ensure compliance with Company standards and all applicable federal, state and local regulations.  This process is performed to ensure stores are fully compliant to Food Code requirements to reduce risks associated with food borne illnesses and regulatory fines. The position must be available 24/7 to provide emergency response support during unanticipated events such as power and refrigeration failures, fires, floods and municipal water supply interruptions to ensure the retail food supply is protected.
 

Primary responsibilities

         Perform unannounced food safety audits of stores, franchise locations and key supplier partners to ensure conditions are in compliance with FDA, USDA, State and local regulations and to company standards and policies, communicate audit results as directed, and assist Store Management in the development and implementation of effective corrective action plans;  these audits are performed to ensure all facilities are operating within the standards for food safety and sanitation requirements to ensure risk levels for food borne illnesses and closures are prevented.

         Perform follow-up activities and advise store, facility and department managers and key associates of violations found during inspections and direct management regarding suitable solutions; re-enforcing safe food handling practices and corrective actions for violations reduces risks to the business from regulatory health authorities; this is accomplished through training and teaching associates and management on why the violation places the business at risk and how to correct the violation to prevent repetitive issues within the operation, supervise and monitor activities necessary to correct violations and sustain compliance.

         Provide emergency response to Store Operations during crisis events that may threaten the safety of our customer's or the public's perception of our stores; performed to protect our customer's, the business and reduce media opportunities; the specialist is actively involved with the District/Store management to determine prevention methods and corrective actions pertaining to food safety/quality and consumer images, during store fires, power outages, boil water orders, natural disasters, food borne illness investigations, pest/rodent issues, 24/7 to support the stores.

         Lead Food Safety and Sanitation training for new management personnel and store associates in safe food handling techniques and proper sanitation procedures; management and associates are trained to ensure food code requirements are fully understood and maintained to reduce risks associated with food borne illnesses and possible closures of facilities; training can be in a group format or one-on-one format during audits when necessary to re-enforce the food code and corrective actions are necessary to reduce risks. Training will be conducted for new stores, to support changes in food code regulations, changes in SOP's or as conditions warrant on a group basis.

         Perform follow-up activities associated with food safety/product quality customer complaints to ensure appropriate corrective action is initiated; follow-up to customer complaints are performed to protect the brand and the customer from any adverse results from the consumption or use of the product's); follow-ups can be accomplished through store visits to investigate the root cause of the issue, product examination, laboratory examination, etc.

         This position is responsible for protecting sensitive customer, associate and company information by: maintaining an understanding of company information security practices and controls; adhering to information security policies; ensuring the proper use of sensitive information; ensuring that vendors for whom the incumbent is responsible adhere to Ahold policies; and reporting policy violations or information security breaches.
