Our 12-week Intern program provides real-world work & learning experiences achieved through project work that is crafted to address real business challenges. You can expect to be fully integrated into the ongoing work of our Schwan’s team to achieve our strategic objectives. Throughout the summer you will to participate in multiple events, both informal and formal, to further your development and allow you the opportunity virtually access and network with fellow interns & senior business leaders, including our CEO. 

Our Product Development interns will gain cross-functional work & project experience with real business impact.  You will be responsible for the support of Product Innovation & Development groups in the areas of new product development, product improvement, cost reduction, product maintenance, R&D lab operations and maintenance, sensory testing, and technical support to Marketing, Sales, and Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare experimental formulas and develop processes as instructed, report and document results, progress reports and any production hurdles or problems

• Carry out cooking and/or testing instructions as directed and document sensory attributes and reconstitution methods such as baking temperature and time

• Develop & analyze ingredients for product improvements and line extensions

• Assist with cost saving initiatives by identifying or creating substitute ingredients and processes

• Conduct food quality and safety validation tests to support projects for launch and marketing

• Assist with nutritional and wellness initiatives by formulating new product components

• Prepare testing methods according to specifications or develops testing methodologies in lab

• Maintain high degree of cleanliness of R&D lab area and equipment clean according to cleaning and operational instructions

Education:  Candidate should currently be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Food Science, Bakery Science, Culinary Science, Dairy Science, Grain Science, Culinology or related field with an anticipated graduation date of December 2016 or May 2017. GPA of 3.0 preferred.
