The Food Scientist will plan, design and execute all assigned research, development and optimization projects from concept to completion.This includes bench top development and scale up testing for beverage flavor systems and finish product (may require infrequent travel in the USA and internationally), as well as manufacturing process and specifications developments. The Food Scientist will evaluate and provide recommendations for product improvements by addressing flavor, texture, aroma, color, nutrition and cost parameters, and will interact with ingredients suppliers to source new raw materials as needed for all projects. This position will require the Food Scientist to effectively manage the technical timelines for multiple projects with competing deadlines, and to write and maintain detailed lab reports and summaries for all projects. The position reports to the Senior Food Scientist.
Manage and perform all assigned projects, with focus on sensory, analytical, stability, microbiological and financial requirements
Capture experimentation notes on a daily basis and write detailed lab reports and summaries as required
Evaluate and provide recommendations for product improvements by addressing flavor, texture, nutrition, and cost
Interact with current vendors and help source new raw materials as needed for all projects
Maintains lab cleanliness according to the cleaning schedule and to maintain inventory of all lab supplies. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Preventive Actions, Quality Policy, Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and Safety policies. Manufacture, process, pack, or hold clean and safe food as appropriate to the assigned duties.
3 years of experience required in Research and Development in the food industry, preferably in beverage applications
Bachelors Degree in food science is required
Strong mathematical and analytical skill, as well as, strong communication, leadership, and time / project management skills.
Attention to details and ability to create, implement and maintain standards over multiple projects required.
Basic knowledge of beverage chemistry, formulation and labeling regulation required.
Must be self-motivated, conscientious, hardworking, reliable and accurate, well organized and able to produce quality lab work at all times.
Knowledge of principles of food hygiene and food safety as defined and described on 21 CFR- Part 117 including the importance of employee health and personal hygiene, as appropriate to the assigned duties.
Intermediate Microsoft Office Experience
