Responsibilities:

Primary Function

The Food Technologist, Technical Service will be responsible for developing and maintaining superior working relationships with technical individuals at key customers. The Technologist will collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Applications and the Go-To-Market team to promote functional, value-added ingredients and solutions to meet various customer needs through phone, face-to-face meetings, presentations and trade shows. The Technologist will provide technical support for a broad range of food applications and will lead the development of food formulations and prototypes using bench top and pilot plant scale operations utilizing Good Manufacturing Practices. He/she will also perform research related duties as needed or assigned.

 

Reports To: Project Leader – Ingredient Solutions, Technical Services

Key Deliverables

Business

  • Understand internal and external customers’ technical needs and support specific assigned accounts and territories. Help customer’s enhance their product offerings.
  • Build a good understanding of creating value for our customers and actively use knowledge of the overall business strategy, products, and markets to execute goals.
  • Respond to customer needs. Seeks external knowledge to improve understanding and work output. Generate and provide valuable data to others.
  • Utilizes project management skills to provide the best customer solution. Understand how priorities are set and how the project portfolio is managed.
  • Plan and manage projects to deliver on time and within budget. Balance multiple, complex demands. Manage and prioritize own work according to shifting goals and business needs.

 

Agility and Innovation

  • Provide technical expertise and support to customers for a broad range of food applications. Apply product and application knowledge to identify customer solutions.
  • Execute well-defined experiments and procedures to prepare food prototypes in the lab or in the pilot plant.
  • Understand and conduct pilot and production scale trials at customers. Design and implemens new product technologies for customers and internal clients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the company’s technologies and their applications in customers’ products.

  • Collaborate with peers, managers and customers, understanding how and with whom to collaborate with to make individual contribution to deliver goals and execute project plans.
  • Seek opportunities (training, projects, etc.) that develop knowledge and skills to become a stronger contributor.
  • Serve as an active team member, actively seeking feedback and guidance from manager. Helps others and responds to business needs.
  • Assess own strengths and weaknesses to identify development needs.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Food Science, Food Engineering or other related discipline with 1 to 3+ years of experience in the food industry.
  • Knowledge of common food processes, food ingredient functionality and ingredient interactions a plus.
  • Previous laboratory/bench top experience in a research food laboratory or product development environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience working with technical information (i.e. food formulations, food processing specifications, pilot plant procedures, etc.) desired.
  • Previous starch technology experience is desired.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills (technical reports for internal and external distribution, presentations, etc.)
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel 25-30% domestically.
