Description

Currently, we're seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Director of Quality and Food Safety. We're looking to hire a self-motivated leader that will be responsible for the design and management of the quality systems used to assure food safety, regulatory compliance and reliable product manufacturing while also ensuring safe agricultural practices, ingredient/packaging management, manufacturing and distribution.

Here's what you'll be responsible for. You will:

  • Ensure all Suppliers, which include growers, producers, manufacturers, distributors and/or vendors, are operating at Harmless Harvest standards for safe food production 
  • Ensure Harmless Harvest standards and guidelines are current and up to date with new product information
  • Utilize appropriate manufacturing and sanitation programs to assure product safety and to control product spoilage
  • Guide our business in food safety including new products as well as changes to existing products and processes
  • Conduct regulatory research and provide support to ensure products meet regulatory requirements, including implementation of new label regulatory requirements
  • Assure that programs and products are in compliance with domestic and international regulations
  • Assure that certification and licensing requirements and agreements, including USDA Organic, Fair For Life and others are met
  • Interact effectively with FDA and other regulatory personnel, food safety auditors, and customers to maintain positive & responsive relationships
  • Utilize appropriate tools to assure statistical control and continuous improvement
  • Ensure the proactive management of risk and safety 
  • Conduct scientific studies, compile results and prepare reports to facilitate decision making. Review and update technical product specifications
  • Lead evaluation of new processes to improve products and quality
  • Lead technical introduction of new products

Qualifications


Here's what you bring to the table:

  • 7-10 years of Food Safety experience in a food-manufacturing environment, dealing with dairy/refrigerated/highly perishable products, as well as co-packers
  • Bachelorís and Masterís Degrees in Food Science or Microbiology or related discipline required
  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience in food chemistry and microbiology, as well as food safety and limited shelf-life products
  • Audit training or certification a plus
  • Strong foundation in regulatory policies
  • Proven ability to evaluate food safety and quality processes
  • Experience developing and implementing a whole quality process
  • Highly organized, detail oriented with ability to multi-task
  • Ability to handle complex situations involving multiple SKUís, channels and distribution models
  • Ability to lead and develop Quality team in both technical capability and effective communication
  • Passionate and high-energy individual looking to play a critical role in a developing company
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods of time, up to 40% annually
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and creative problem solving
  • Deadline oriented with ability to organize assignments, set priorities and carry out plans
  • Project management capacity
  • Excellent negotiating and contracting skills
