Food Quality Assurance Manager oversees the overall quality and safety of company's food products and is responsible for ensuring that food products meet standards set by both company and regulatory authorities. Develops and reviews quality and safety policies and manage audits by third-party inspectors. Trains quality assurance employees and oversee manufacturing and production processes.

Essential Functions: 

  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Develop and/or adapt inspection equipment to meet quality control standards, make suggestions with regard to procedures, standards and equipment to facilitate work and maintain product quality.
  • Analyze facts or circumstances surrounding individual problems to determine what action should be taken within the limits of standard practices.
  • Responsible for compilation and maintenance of inspection reports and records.
  • Investigate and determine cause of faulty work and consult and advise production supervisors as to corrective measures.
  • Investigates complaints on existing products and responds to vendor or customer.
  • Oversee the efficient implementation of quality standards, programs and processes to improve operational efficiencies and reduce/eliminate production waste and HOLD product.
  • Train employees in SOPís (Standard Operating Procedures) and GMPís (Good Manufacturing Procedures) to ensure training effectiveness in application of job skills
  • Lead programs such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and others as assigned.
  • Keep track of the Hazard Principal and ensure the organization complies with the set Quality Standard and Safety Measures.
  • Inspect the organizationís manufacturing and packaging functions to identify the areas that pose threat to the health of the consumer or violate the quality and safety measures.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of new developments, technology and processes.
  • Maintains time and testing records, reporting monthly.
  • Meet with other supervisors and inspect facilities for compliance with standards, determining methods to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Review customer feedback and respond to any complaints.
  • Prepare reports on food quality status to relay to management and may keep records of all tests and inspections that have been conducted.
  • Participate in R&D activities as requested.

Additional Responsibilities:
Aside from the specific areas identified herein, performs practical hands on work and other related duties as required or assigned. In the absence of the Quality Assurance Manager the Director of Co-Pack Operations will assume all duties.

Other Qualifications                                               

  • Must be knowledgeable about all food safety standards that are customary within the food industry and mandated by government regulations.
  • Knowledge of Inspection and Quality Control methods, techniques and equipment.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a food-related discipline, such as food science, microbiology, chemistry or food industry management. Preferred requirement - a minimum 5 years supervisory experience in Quality Assurance in a manufacturing environment and SQF certification.

Physical Requirements
