Quality Assurance Team Leader - Rexburg, ID






The Quality Assurance Team Leader is accountable to assist in the administration of
Food Safety, Quality, and laboratory programs that result in compliance with
BAF Policies and Procedures, FDA GMPs, and customer requirements as related to
the receiving of raw materials, and production and packaging of finished goods.
Oversee the operation of the laboratory and all quality testing done in the lab
as well as quality testing as designated by the Quality Assurance Manager for
the whole facility. Oversees the scheduling and training of all technicians,
backups and others as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety: Promote safety through personal conduct. Complete regular SAFE observations within the
manufacturing facility and lab areas. Monitor and coach employees on the
importance of being personally responsible for their own safety behavior.
Ensure that QA Technicians are aware of and observe all laboratory and plant
safety policies, MSDS's for all chemicals used in the laboratory and other
administrative and engineering safety controls. Ensure that unsafe conditions
are corrected in a timely manner.

Customer Satisfaction:  Ensures that all testing requests are prioritized and accurate, delivering
on-time results. Ensure accurate and efficient attribute analysis and reporting
on incoming ingredients and supplies as well as all processed and packaged
products. Assist in required customer documentation. Audit and ensure
compliance with customer requirements, FDA regulations and GMPs, HACCP, as well
as all BAF product safety and sanitation policies, procedures and guidelines as
needed.  Support the QA Manager in the
resolution of direct material quality issues and warehouse receiving

Employee Training Development: Set an example of leadership by assisting in the ongoing
coaching, development and training of all plant employees performing quality
and food safety tasks. Provide coaching and feedback when errors occur. Provide
expertise and resources for product analysis, product safety and sanitation
training for QA Technicians. Regularly audit employees who perform quality
tests for competency and adherence to written laboratory procedures used to
analyze raw materials and production samples. Ensure all product attributes are
being analyzed at the prescribed frequencies according to the correct procedure
with documented results demonstrating that specification requirements are
met.  Assist with new hire orientation and training.Assist the Manager to
ensure performance appraisals and progress reports are completed in a timely
manner.  May need to assist Technicians in daily function as needed. 

Sanitation/GMP:  Monitor, audit, and education team members in 5S principles, chemical usage, sanitation guidelines, food safety guidelines and GMP's. 

Manage Resources:  Ensure the lab is staffed with employees. Ensure the laboratory and thefacility is equipped with all of the necessary supplies and controls, and functioning, calibrated equipment necessary to complete required testing.  Purchase all routinely used items in the most cost-effective manner staying within the departmental budget. Troubleshoot and make minor repairs to testing equipment. 

Technical Services Administration: Assist with maintaining accurate standard operating procedures. Administer various document systems including analytical results, HOLD forms, equipment calibration records, etc. to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.  Coordinate the storage and rotation of all library samples and quality assurance records, ensuring that they are maintained for specified BAF time period.

Personal Development: Will be trained in all laboratory procedures and practices. Training will be provided for SAFE, Lean, HACCP, SQF, GMP's, first aid, leadership etc. as needed.

Continuous Improvement/Basic Principles:
Demonstrate a daily commitment to the continuous improvement process by
following Lean Manufacturing principles, and following the Basic Principles.

complete behavior based safety observations.  Ensure unsafe conditions are
corrected in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                     

This position has no direct reports however, is expected to lead a team of
technicians in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, and directing day-to-day
activities of lab staff; addressing questions and concerns of lab technicians
and operations personnel pertaining to lab functions.

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.) in a science discipline from four-year college or
university or cumulative experience demonstrating a thorough understanding of food safety and quality practices. 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and business
correspondence.  Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers,
clients, customers, and the general public. 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
and geometry. 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense
understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram
form.  Ability to deal with problems
involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:  Working
knowledge of internet software, spreadsheet software, word processing software,
and email. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Certification in HACCP Principles as an SQF Practitioner or a willingness to complete upon
