About the Opportunity

The Assistant Brewing Manager is responsible for the operation and manufacture of Boston Beer Company products within the Brewing Department. This includes meeting safety standards, GMP standards, quality specifications, and operational efficiencies.  In addition, as part of the Brewing Team, the Assistant Brewing Manager will focus on supporting project implementation and brewery troubleshooting.

 Ingredients To Be A Successful Assistant Brewing Manager

  • Recommends and/or selects equipment and improvements in manufacturing methods to the Brewing Manager.
  • Responsible to assist in the development and maintenance of a system to assure that all brewing product manufactured by the SABC meet customer specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels.
  • Directs the brewing supervisor(s) and eight (8) to ten (10) hourly personnel. Manages activities of the purchasing and inventory control of process aids, chemicals, supplies and materials according to established policy.
  • Serves as the Brewing Manager during his/her absence.
  • Participates in establishing the overall strategy and operational plan that will concentrate efforts toward successful achievement of the Brewing goals.
  • Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.  Observes workers and evaluates job activities to determine correct use of prescribed safety equipment and proper work procedures.
  • Provides input for production schedules for the brewhouse, wort cooling and fassing portion of the cold process operations for the department.
  • Manages and supervises the flow of materials and utilization of labor to ensure adequate production of required quality to fulfill production requirements.
  • Recommends to Brewing Manager and/or makes improvements to machinery, equipment, processes and facilities affecting quality, efficiency or GMPs in the department.
  • Controls allocation and use of personnel to ensure fulfillment of production schedules and meet required GMPs in all areas of the department with minimal overtime.
  • Directs operation of all department areas and guides supervisors in the performance of their duties.
  • Implements and maintains quality production and safety policies in the brewing area. 
  • Meets with vendors, customers, quality representatives and Company personnel to discuss and resolve quality problems as required.
  • Assists in the effort to provide technical training and guidance to management and team members within the brewing area.
  • Communicate effectively with management and employees.

To Be Mixed With:

  • Minimum of a Bachelorís degree in a field relevant to brewing (Biology, Chemistry, Fermentation Science, Chem. Eng., Mech. Eng.); or Brewers Diploma/Certification required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in manufacturing industry within the brewing field.
  • Ability to manage a large number of people and projects concurrently.
  • Both operational and new product development experiences are preferred.
