Director Food Safety (Microbiologist) - Fresno, CA
∑ Manage microbiological testing laboratory. This is to include all SOP and specifications are up to date and relevant.
∑ Manage and/or perform routine bacterial screening on raw materials, finished products, environments or special projects.
∑ Maintain reporting system.
∑ Lead investigator on concerns pertaining to any microbial concern associated with raw materials, finished products, environments or special projects.
∑ Manage environmental monitoring program.
∑ Develop key objectives to be met for all direct reports.
∑ All objectives should reflect strict division of labor/responsibility within the micro lab to promote direct tangible accountability.
∑ Direct and provide appropriate training for all direct reports and ensure all direct reports are functioning effectively within their given job description.
∑ Assist SVP of Quality Assurance and Director of QA by providing quantitative and justifiable criteria for possible modifications within the given structure of the micro lab.
∑ To work closely with, and in conjunction with all Quality Control personnel and Production Managers in any assistance capacity affecting shelf stability or root cause analysis of products with a potential or verified microbial contamination concern.
∑ This to include maintenance/development of process schedules and best sanitation practices of equipment/environment.
∑ To conduct on site micro inspections at Lyons.
∑ To assist SVP QA, Director of QA or QS manager on all requests regarding micro concerns.
∑ Support plant programs to ensure aseptic systems are not compromised.
∑ Initiate micro monitoring systems at Plant Engineers' request or on own.
∑ Maintain surveillance of pathogenic and non pathogenic organisms as they relate to potential product contamination, environment, and water systems.
∑ Maintain all documents, records and procedures that affect micro results, methods and reportingís.
∑ Maintain a current maintenance and calibration logs for micro lab equipment.
∑ To supervise assistant micro technologist/technician, train in areas of accountability and provide them with written job descriptions in all aspects of their responsibilities and requirements.
∑ Initiate purchasing orders of all required materials and supplies for the micro lab, within the guidelines of projected budget.
∑ Direct operational or product holds to appropriate accountable personnel i.e. warehouse, raw materials QC, and QC as they pertain to unacceptable micro results.
∑ As Plant Sanitarian; conduct Lyons Plant Audits on a prescribed time table to inspect sanitary conditions and GMP practices.
∑ Provide a written inspection sheet with results of inspections to accountable personnel and their supervisors.
∑ As Plant Sanitarian; initiate preventative work orders as they pertain to the sanitary conditions that require them. Work closely with the Maintenance Department to accomplish this task.
∑ Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
∑ A proven track record of exceptional supervisory skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
∑ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
∑ A minimum of a Bachelorís degree from an accredited university, preferably in Food Science, Microbiology
∑ A minimum of 7 years of successful experience in the food manufacturing as a Microbiologist, Sanitarian or related field.
∑ An understanding of the core competencies of manufacturing/packing of fresh fruit or vegetables, pasteurized products, and aseptic products and the testing methodologies of such
