BRUSSELS, Belgium: The EU's food safety agency says that food-poisoning cases are on the rise across the 27-nation bloc.

The EU agency says that even though cases of salmonella dropped slightly and listeria remained unchanged, reported infections of diarrhea and fever-causing campylobacter rose in 2007.

The agency says it recorded 200,507 cases of campylobacter, up from 175,561 in 2006.

Campylobacter and salmonella sicken the most people, usually through raw or undercooked poultry or eggs.

The Parma, Italy-based EU agency said on Tuesday that more measures had to be taken by health authorities to ensure that dangerous bacteria is properly killed during cooking.
