
EU agency: food poisoning cases on the rise

BRUSSELS, Belgium: The EU's food safety agency says that food-poisoning
cases are on the rise across the 27-nation bloc. The
EU agency says that even though cases of salmonella dropped slightly and listeria remained unchanged, reported infections of
diarrhea and fever-causing campylobacter rose in 2007. The
agency says it recorded 200,507 cases of campylobacter, up from 175,561
in 2006. Campylobacter
and salmonella sicken the most people, usually through raw or undercooked
poultry or eggs. The
