1/30/2009-Peanut Corp. of America (PCA) has
announced an expanded recall of all products produced in its Blakely, Ga. facility.
Previously, PCA announced a recall of peanut butter and peanut paste; now the
recall includes all peanuts (dry and oil roasted), granulated peanuts, peanut
meal, peanut butter and peanut paste produced since Jan. 1, 2007. PCA is not
aware of any complaints or reports of illness involving the additional
peanuts and peanut products subject to this expanded recall. The recalled
peanuts and peanut products were distributed nationwide to institutions, food
service industries, and private label food companies, as well as to Canada, Haiti,
Korea, and Trinidad.
This comes just days after the FDA concluded its investigation of the PCA
facility in Blakely, Ga.
and found it to be the source of the current Salmonella outbreak.
The FDA’s plant inspection report revealed a number of deficiencies,
including evidence of cracks in the floor, live cockroaches, mold and water
dripping from the ceiling in an area where finished products were stored.
