About us:

We are a nationally recognized, long established and leading manufacturer of kosher food products. We are seeking a Food Science Technologists for our facility located in Newark, New Jersey.

Summary Description:

This position will have responsibility for product development and optimization activities across multiple brands and product types supporting the Manischewitz Company mission of growing sales through the development and launch of innovative new food products and improve cast and performance of existing products. Your role will include the identification, testing and application of new and/ or modified products, processes and technology to deliver consumer and manufacturing innovation. In addition, projects may also involve working with outside contract facilities and vendors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Hands-on, benchtop product development of new product’s and formula optimization of existing product portfolio. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work to meet key milestones and goals.
  • Work closely with supervisor to develop project scope and work plans, including coordination with other departments to manage projects.
  • Create, update, and maintain: records of product development research and raw material, product formula and process specifications.
  • Ability to work within a manufacturing environment for: product testing, scale up, and production start-up and to conduct data gathering and studies to investigate process efficiency enhancement and/ or quality improvements.
  • Ability to research product ideas, create and develop prototypes & formulas. Evaluate proposed products and processes for implementation and review product with management team.
  • Become knowledgeable with Process Controls and Capabilities across various product and packaging platforms.
  • Design, develop, and perform tests to understand competitive product construction and application performance characteristics.
  • Practical understanding of Food Safety / HAACP and labeling regulations.

Education, Prior Work Experience/Specialized Skills and Knowledge:

  • BS Degree in Food Science or Chemistry with 3+ years in R & D with a recognized food manufacturer.
  • Ability to plan, organize work and handle multiple projects in a fast paced organization.
  • Full lab-bench through production project management experience including
  • Concept through formulation, prototype development and production start-up.
  • Canning and/ or bakery process experience preferred.
  • 'Hands-on' experience working with operations, marketing, and procurement.
  • Must be detail oriented, good communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong laboratory work, data analysis and computer skills.
  • A self-motivated and driven individual to be an important contributor to a winning team is essential.
  • Excellent PC skills a must.

Physical and Environment/Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to walk, sit, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to tolerate cold and heat.
  • Must be able to spend multiple nights out of town infrequently
