A milk factory in the southern Thai province of Chumphon has been closed due to the contamination of its products with the E coli bacteria.

Following reports of substandard milk being supplied to local schools, Chumphon authorities ordered milk samples to be taken from the Namsrichol Co. factory.

After test results showed the presence of E coli in milk, indicating a substandard production process, Chumphon governor Karan Supakitwilekhakarn issued a 30-day closure order against the factory.

Namsrichol Co was contracted to distribute pasteurized milk schools and 28 childcare centers in the province under the school milk project.

Karan said the factory had received a 10,000 baht fine and had been ordered to improve its manufacturing system to comply with the Food Act.
