Series Overview:
Employees in positions allocated to this series are part the T&I team and are responsible for project leadership that typically involves the design, development and implementation of routine and/or limited scope project assignments with some latitude for unreviewed action or decision. They provide coordination, communication and project structure between various internal and external parties under administrative direction.

Job Description:
Employees in positions at this level of the series have multiple years of experience in regulatory and nutrition scientific affairs. The regulatory and nutrition science affairs manager will report to the Senior Group Leader, Global Nutrition.
In this position, the manager will collaborate with a cross functional team of professionals that will include but not limited to global nutrition, legal, discovery, quality, product development, government affairs, marketing, and communications. The manager will contribute to Solae’s regulatory and nutrition science affairs strategy and will also influence future regulation and legislation related to Solae’s business.

Primary Responsibilities:
Typical responsibilities of a Regulatory & Science Affairs Manager include:

• The Regulatory & Nutrition Science Affairs Manager will provide leadership and direction on scientific and regulatory affairs matters globally.
• Participate in building a strong strategic regulatory & scientific affairs program that meets Solae’s business and technology needs.
• Keep abreast of developments and emerging issues in the regulatory science environment and identify regulatory-related business opportunities globally.
• Anticipate, shape and influence regulatory, legislative and public policy issues by working with internal partners, scientific, industry trade, and academic organizations.
• Provide regulatory input on projects by forecasting regulatory environment and impacts globally, providing regulatory compliance and scientific expertise guidance to internal stakeholders.
• Support current and new initiatives including regulatory input and/or leadership on claims, GRAS approvals, health claims submissions, technology plans and print/web-based technical materials/collaterals.
• Effectively communicate across technical and non-technical audiences internally and externally.
• Build/ enhance internal and external networks to identify, influence and coordinate resolutions to scientific and regulatory issues important to Solae.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors/Masters in Science, with a focus in Nutrition, Food, Regulatory Science or related field preferred.

14 years Bachelors Degree with fourteen (14) years of related experience.

Masters Degree in a Biological, Chemical, Food Science or related field with thirteen (13) years of experience

Masters Degree in a Biological, Chemical, Food Science or related field with thesis with twelve (12) years of experience

Ph.D. with ten (10) years of experience

Additional Competencies and Experience Desired:
Knowledge includes:
1. Thorough understanding of North American science and regulatory issues that impact food and ingredient businesses.
2. Understanding and experience with global regulatory science, claims, GRAS petitions, and related activities.

Ability to/for:
1. Ability to interact and influence both internal and external stakeholders – industry, academia, government, etc.
2. Ability to analyze, interpret and translate scientific data and information into regulatory opportunities, substantiation of claims and related activities working with, global regulatory/government agencies.
3. Experience and ability to influence and negotiate positions despite opposing viewpoints, along with the ability to create alternative solutions that will meet business needs.
4. Coordinate regulatory affairs activities including development of technical submissions and presentation of science to regulatory/government bodies.
5. Communicate well externally and internally with all levels of management and cross functionally.
6. Work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to a variety of business environments.

1. Excellent problem solving, written and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex scientific information, attend to detail, and manage multiple projects that meet deadlines.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to meet diverse needs of internal and external clients.
3. Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization skills necessary.
