Primary Function

The Food Safety Coordinator will be responsible for leading the Indianapolis site Food Safety team and personnel to safely, responsibly, and consistently reduce the levels of food safety rejects. The Food Safety Coordinator will develop, direct and provide leadership for the implementation and continuous improvement of Food Safety systems, process’ and supporting records to ensure compliance with regulatory, quality system and customer requirements.

Critical Deliverables

Business

·         Act as the technical expert on food safety concerns and expectations for plant personnel. Ensure immediate reaction and resolution to food safety and food quality deficiencies.

·         Lead regular HACCP audits with a cross-functional team to ensure all food grade products produced are safe and meet company, regulatory and customer expectations.

·         Maintain HACCP Quality Manual and all food safety records and work with all personnel to ensure compliance. Manage employee training on SSOPs, food safety, and HACCP.

·         Lead the Environmental Sampling Program. Analyze and interpret results to focus operational improvements to reduce micro failures in the plant.

Agility and Innovation

·         Monitor existing and new food safety procedures as needed and review, verify, revise and improve these systems on a periodic basis.

·         Analyze, evaluate and provide recommendations on product quality attributes that affect food safety. Apply scientific methodology, use of root cause and statistical analysis tools to support recommendations for process improvements and drive continuous improvements.

·         Provide back-up coverage for the Quality Manager on food safety issues and the Quality Systems Coordinator on customer audits and complaints.

·         Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers that facilitate the company’s goals.

Knowledge, Skills,

and Requirements:

·         Minimum of five years’ experience in a leadership role within the Food Industry.

·         Experience with food safety, HACCP, and hygiene programs.

·         Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Intelex and SAP.

·         Experience with ISO 9001:2008, Six Sigma, SPC and Lean Manufacturing principles.

·         Bachelor of Science in a technical field (such as microbiology, chemistry or engineering).
