Former Under Secretary of Agriculture for Food Safety Dr. Richard Raymond is joining the Meatingplace team with a weekly blog called Food (Safety) Fight that will discuss food safety policies and proposals.

Raymond brings a unique and educated perspective to the challenges of food safety, having overseen U.S. food safety policy related to the meat industry from 2005 through 2008. He is currently an affiliate professor at Colorado State University and an industry consultant and public speaker on food safety and public health issues.

Prior to joining USDA, Dr. Raymond was the chief medical officer for the state of Nebraska. He was a rural family physician for 17 years.

Raymond's blog joins two other Meatingplace blogs Cutting to the Chase written by veteran industry executive Raoul Baxter and Poultry Perspective by Yvonne Vizzier Thaxton, executive editor of POULTRY magazine and a poultry science professor at Mississippi State University.

"Response to our industry blogs has been nothing short of phenomenal," said Bill McDowell, editorial director for Meatingplace and its sister publications. "This medium has enabled lively and informed dialogue between our readers and other industry experts. We're thrilled to welcome Dr. Raymond to our lineup and look forward to watching these conversations continue to grow and evolve."

All Meatingplace blogs can be accessed from the shortcut menu on the left side of the Meatingplace.com home page.
