Description

Odwalla, Inc. is the leading national brand of nourishing food products, including fresh juices, nutritionally fortified juice blends, food bars, and spring water. We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Food Technologist to work in our Research and Development Department at our company , located in Dinuba.

  

As the Senior Food Technologist, you will:

 

  • Develop new products and innovations through all stages of product introduction (concept, benchtop, sensory testing, plant trial, commercialization, shelf life, nutritional verification) while staying within specified parameters (cost, label claims, targeted flavor and customer profiles) at all manufacturing sites (Dinuba and Co-packers).

 

  • Generate creative new concepts and innovative products and processes appropriate to the brand, business plan and strategies

·          

Represent R&D as a project leader in interacting with marketing, production, QA, purchasing, finance, logistics, and sales departments as well as with suppliers and customers.

  • Prioritize projects and co-ordinate daily lab schedules and resources based on time lines and business needs.
  • Understand the impact of decisions on departmental and company financials.
  • Provide Technical Services and trouble shooting support to Operations and Quality Assurance in Dinuba and co-packing facilities. 
  • Be technical liaison to Coke and Apopka technical groups.
  • Conduct technical research projects through all stages of experimentation (test protocol development, inter-departmental coordination, execution, and data generation & interpretation).

·         Investigate, analyze, and execute new product/process improvement and cost savings opportunities.

  • Train, develop, and supervise Food Technologist and/or Lab Technicians.
  • Co-ordinate daily lab schedules and priorities.

·         Develop ingredient and nutritional statements and present to SRA for approval.

·         Develop and maintain Operating and Ingredient Specifications.

·         Develop, execute, and audit best lab procedures and practices.

  • Develop juice blend recipes for production.

·         Develop and maintain food service customer relationships.

·         Self-training to keep abreast of developing technologies, lifestyle and nutritional trends to maintain competitive edge.

 

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

 

·         Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field with minimum 10 years of product development experience.

·         Solid understanding of food chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and sensory evaluation principles and practices.

·         Possess detailed and diverse experiences in all phases of the product development process and in ingredient technology.

·         Possess diverse food processing and ingredient science knowledge.

·         Previous experience exhibiting leadership skills within R&D and with other departments; supervisory experience is also required.

·         Self-manage multiple projects in a fast paced working environment.

·         Work well with many departments such as Marketing, Sales, Operations, Quality, and Purchasing.

·         Understand R&D’s actions on the company’s financials.

·         Proactive and able to identify problems and execute solutions.

·         Ability to travel required.

  • Creative culinary skills. 

·         Understanding of NHB and LOHAS customer base and nutritional and culinary trends.

·         Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to present to upper management, sales groups, and customers.

·         Fruit and/or nutritional experience a plus, but not necessary.
