DES MOINES, Iowa - A jury has awarded a Grimes couple $50,000 for a wedding reception that was tainted by contaminated salads served at the rehearsal dinner.

A Polk County jury awarded Andrew and Sara Slagle $25,000 each for past emotional distress on Wednesday. The couple had sought $415,000 for past and future emotional distress after guests became ill after eating the tainted salads.

Polk County health officials traced the illness to a salad-maker with feces-contaminated hands.

The Slagles filed the lawsuit against Trostel's Greenbriar Restaurant and Bar in Johnston after guests at the November 2006 reception fell ill after eating the salads the night before.

Some guests, including the groom and the father of the bride, went to the emergency room.
