As an Application Technologist I in our Science + Technology group, your main focus will be to prepare flavoured food products for research projects, presentations and customer projects; and select optimal applications for projects according to specified requirements (i.e., customer, regulatory, legislation, technical costs).

Responsibilities

·         Execute technical projects within discipline.

·         Participate in the planning of technical projects.

·         Observe & document experimental results and discuss with supervisor.

·         Contribute to discussions of research plans, making experimental observations and helping to make connections to related, but separate technologies.

·         Collaborate with Sensory and Flavour Creation teams.

·         Participate in evaluations of flavours in food applications for research projects and portfolio evaluations.

·         Maintain a safe, clean and organized lab environment in accordance with EH&S policies.

Success Profile

·         Polytechnic or B.S. in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or related area and; 0-1 years experience in a food applications lab, production, or related area (preferred).

·         Complete understanding of research documentation protocol.

·         Complete knowledge of lab equipment and materials used to perform lab functions.

·         Complete knowledge of lab safety, hygiene and environmental guidelines/requirements.

·         Understanding of basic food ingredients when used in application.

·         Understanding of selected specific food applications processes.

·         Knowledge of selected food products and their production processes.

·         Basic understanding of the financial aspects of flavour selection (cost-in-use, margins, etc.).

·         Demonstrates tasting skills and is able to effectively describe the flavour profile of the product.

·         Ability to work independently.

·         Strong communication skills.
