MEDORA — A food allergy was responsible for a crash near the Chateau de Mores Friday.

Michael Rooney, 75, from Cody, Wyo., was traveling east on the Interstate 94 business loop toward Medora when he reportedly blacked out because of a food allergy, crossed the center line, went off the left side of the road and crossed over two approaches before coming back onto the road, Medora Police Department Chief John Bey said Saturday.

From there, the vehicle crossed two lanes to the south side of the road where it crossed over the Chateau Road near Medora. The vehicle then hit a bog hole where the car’s airbags deployed. The vehicle continued until it struck a guide wire and power pole, Bey said.

Rooney sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, where he was treated and released Friday.

No charges were filed.
