Job Description

Savory Foods, A gourmet bakery located in Grand Rapids, Michigan is looking for an experienced Sanitation/Food Safety Manager. Job description and expectations are listed below.

Summary Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in duties concerned with sanitation programs in food processing establishment. Responsible for achieving the highest level of plant and equipment sanitation and food safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Inspects products and equipment for conformity to federal and state sanitation laws and plant standards.

•Directs food handlers and production personnel in sanitary and pest-control procedures.

•Directs cleaning of equipment and work areas. Ensures that all SOP's procedures and documentation are followed and completed as directed.

•Inspects premises for unsanitary practices and conditions. Recommends changes as appropriate.

•Examines incoming shipments of food ingredients for foreign matter such as insects, poisons, or dirt, and gathers samples of ingredients for laboratory analysis. Monitors and ensures finished products leaving the facility meet Savory Foods quality standards and evaluates processes and procedures.

•Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and purity of product.

•Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.

•Develop and maintain processes to ensure compliance with all HACCP, MDA, FDA and AIB standards or regulations.

•Develop and maintain all training and training records as it pertains to sanitation, food safety and quality requirements.

•Analyzes and resolves customer complaints regarding quality issues and assists workers in solving quality issues.

•Maintains production records as they relate to the sanitation of the plant and safety and quality of the products produced.

•Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

•Must be able to perform the activities of workers supervised.

Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises 3 to 4 Sanitation personnel and indirectly supervises 5-10 Line Leaders in carrying out the duties of the Food Safety and Sanitation Manager. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or 6 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations HACCP Certification from an accredited training program

Other Skills and Abilities Familiarity with AIB (American Institute of Baking) standards Previous experience with safe food handling and Quality Assurance Demonstrated experience and progressive leadership in quality control and food safety environment Ability to speak Spanish is also helpful but not required.
