California Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due To Possible E. Coli Contamination After Investigation By Virginia Health Department

Richmond, VA _  A California Company is recalling the ground beef that may have been the source of the E. Coli outbreak that sickened dozens of boy scouts at a camp in Rockbridge County.

S&S Foods LLC., an Azusa, Calif., firm, is recalling approximately 153,630 pounds of frozen ground beef products because of possible contamination.

The product being recalled is 30-pound boxes of "742798 MFST, 100% GROUND BEEF BULK, 80/20, 1LB. BRICK."

The ground beef products were intended for food service and institutional use and not for direct retail purchase.

The problem was discovered through a joint epidemiological investigation by the USDA Food Safety and Inspecion Service and the Virginia Department of Health.
