Summary:
Hourly position interpreting and implementing food safety standards in canning facility of 100+ employees. Conducts audits to evaluate facility, processes and products for food safety, and recommends methods of correction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews operational standards, HACCP, sanitary regulations, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Confers with plant management to assist and lead them through independent third-party food safety audits.
  • Conducts internal audits to evaluate the safety of our products.
  • Coordinates Good Manufacturing Practices program by conducting semi-monthly GMP inspections and follows up on noted deficiencies. Trains all personnel in GMP, and keeps appropriate records.
  • Attends management team meetings on weekly basis.
  • Evaluates potential hazards or product contamination points and recommends solution to improve safety.
  • Advises and recommends procedures for detection, prevention, and elimination of physical, clerical, or other product hazards.
  • Researches customer complaints and investigates to find root cause.
  • Reviews operations and confers with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problem.
  • Coordinates all activities with pest control operations.
  • Develops training material and delivers material to subordinate.
  • Represents the company in all third-party audits of our food safety system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of agricultural operations and techniques for growing and harvesting food.
  • Product grading and inspection skills for all products canned at facility.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. The ability to communicate effectively.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Access; Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
