The American Meat Institute issued a news release Tuesday seeking to clarify that the 1.2 million-pound beef recall issued Aug. 8 affects a single company, Nebraska Beef Ltd., and not all beef produced in the state of Nebraska.

A representative of Greater Omaha Packing Co., which is based in Omaha, Neb., told Meatingplace.com that his company had received numerous inquiries indicating such confusion.

"The state of Nebraska ranks second in the nation in terms of the percentage of cattle processed," the AMI news release said. "Millions of pounds of safe beef produced in the state are currently in commerce and may be prepared and consumed safely."
