The Food Safety and Qualtiy Compliance Specialist will facilitate management of programs and systems to ensure all OpCos are functioning in full complaince with federal regulations and good distribution practices; the focus will be consistent adherence to documented regulatory, corporate, local and import regulations, standards and practices. The Compliance Specialist will also create, maintain and control product specifications for all locally purchased and OpCo specific products and will occassionally monitor these products for quality compliance and the supplier facilities for food safety compliance. The associate will act as primary resource to the OpCo QA and procurement teams as well as corporate QA and Procurement. Food focus will be locally purchased products and non-branded OpCo specific items and will include evaluating these items for sensory, functionality and quality.

Other duties include:

*Coordinate, perform, manage, monitor and document the following:
1) OpCo GDP compliance programs and initiatives

2) OpCo HACCP compliance programs and initiatives

3) OpCo 3rd party and internal audit programs

4) OpCo recall reporting via iCiX, and

5) OpCo specific supplier compliance programs

* Provide direct communication to OpCos regarding critical issues affecting food safety and regulatory compliance. Perform incident investigations to determine cause and corrections to reduce reoccurrence or failure of a covered process

*Review OpCo supplier compliance to all applicable regulations pertaining to the safe and sanitary manufacture of foods using effective Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). Support OpCo interactions during regulatory agency inspections, corrective actions and responses. Support OpCo response and facilitate investigation of all reports of alleged food-related illness, food-related injury, and product defects or quality nonconformance.

* As necessary, review branded supplier facility audits for potential hazards to reduce the potential of loss, further define hazards, recommend improvements, and monitor compliance initiatives and recommendations. Identify areas where facilities need assistance in maintaining regulatory compliance Review the facility corrective action for inspection deficiencies. Monitors the status of corrective action at the audited facilities. Provide reports monthly status reports to VP-FSQ and others on branded supplier facilities as to the status of regulatory compliance and 3rd Party audits.

* Schedule, coordinate and conduct routine product reviews for quality compliance with OpCo QA team. Work with Corporate Supply Chain Category Managers on R&D and secondary sourcing projects to control food quality and consistency.

*Schedule, coordinate and conduct routine internal audits at the OpCo as well as developing and maintaining an internal self-inspection process for the OpCo. If necessary, help support any OpCo specific R&D and secondary sourcing projects to control food safety, quality and consistency.

*Support OpCo response and facilitate investigation of all reports of alleged food-related illness, food-related injury, and product defects or quality nonconformance.

Qualifications:

*High School Diploma or Equivalent

*Bachelors Degree in Food Science or Related Field

*Experience in food manufacturing plant operations and processes, food R&D or food distribution QA systems is beneficial. Must have a solid understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP principles. Audit experience a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer experience, preferable in Microsoft Word, Excel and/or Access. Able to both work independently and well with others. Working knowledge of USDA, FDA and other State or Federal regulatory requirements
