Officials: Candy with melamine found in Wis.

(Associated Press, WI)

State officials say candy imported from China that could be contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine has been found in grocery store shelves in three Wisconsin communities.

The White Rabbit candy was recalled by a distributor earlier this month, but officials said it has since been found in stores in Eau Claire, Sheboygan and Wausau, and also in a Wisconsin grocery distribution center.

No illnesses associated with the product have been reported in Wisconsin or elsewhere in the U.S.

In China, melamine has been blended into dry dairy products, which, in turn, were used as ingredients in other foods. 10-08-08
