The 28th annual Food Microbiology Symposium and Workshop will be held next
week at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. This year the focus will be
on food allergen issues and testing.
The symposium, which is scheduled for October 19-22, also features
presentations and discussion on foodborne
pathogens, toxins, and other food safety and quality issues by speakers from
academia, industry and regulatory agencies.
A mini-symposium will be devoted to food allergen issues and methodologies in
association with the Food Allergen research and Resource program, the
International Association for Cereal Science and Technology and R-Biopharm. The event is for anyone interested in a small,
interactive program to learn from outstanding national experts.
"As an international conference, it attracts participants from academia,
research and government labs and food industry," said Purnendu Vasavada, a professor
of food science at UWRF and conference founder/coordinator.
A registration fee of $700 includes conference manual, abstracts of various
presentations at the symposium, breaks and banquet on October 21, as well as
participation in the workshop.
In association with the FARRP and the ICC, Wednesday will be devoted to food
allergen issues and methodologies. Registration is on a fist-come,
first-serve basis. More information about group registration rates for the
symposium is available by calling 715-425-3704.
