In 1994, Dr. Kang joined Dr. Daniel Y.C. Fung's laboratory for his Ph.D. research works at
Kansas State University. In 1997, he got a Ph.D. in Dr. Fung's lab and worked as
a Postdoctor fellow (1997-1999).

In 1999, Dr. Kang moved to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA/ARS/MARC,
Clay Center, NE) worked as Research Microbiologist. During these times, his research works and publications were concentrated on Food Safety field.

In 2000, Dr. Kang was appointed as an Assistant Professor in Department of Food Science
and Human Nutrition at Washington State University (Pullman, WA) and as an Associate Professor (2006). Dr. Kang has more than 70 publications in journals and proceedings. He has gained an international reputation as a researcher on rapid methods and automation in microbiology at symposia in Canada, Mexico, Korea, Japan, India, the United States.

He is Assistant editor of Journal of Rapid Methods and Automation in Microbiology and working as editorial board for Journal of Applied Microbiology, Letters in Microbiology, Journal of Food Protection.

He become Director for Center of detection in National Alliance for Food Safety and Security (2006) and a recipient of the Samuel Cate Prescott Award from IFT (2006).
