Job Summary:

The Food Safety and Regulatory Coordinator will serve as the primary resource for food safety and regulatory matters for the Bell & Evans subsidiary sites and is responsible for building and supporting the implementation of key food safety programs and process. This position will also support the Bell & Evans facilities through participating in internal audits, program and system implementations, and other continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support the implementation of the food safety plans for subsidiary sites. Coordinate with plant management on the monitoring, verification, and validation activities for preventive controls/CCPs and prerequisite programs.
  • Develop, maintain, and drive continuous improvement of food safety programs, including, but not limited to: Product Hold and Release, Food Defense, Food Fraud, Internal Audit, and Organic Control programs. Support plant management on program implementation and validating effectiveness.
  • Oversee compliance to regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, EU), customer expectations/specifications, and 3rd party audit standards. Remain apprised of applicable changes by participating in courses, webinars, etc.
  • Support plant management on root cause analysis investigations for internal and external nonconformances. Ensure corrective actions and preventative measures are implemented and effective.
  • Serve as the liaison between the sites and suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies for all food safety and regulatory matters.
  • Conduct internal audits, record reviews, and GMP inspections with plant management. Provide recommendations and feedback on findings.
  • Lead Food Safety Team meetings with plant management. Communicate regulatory with Food Safety & Compliance Manager and relevant stakeholders on pertinent food safety and regulatory issues.
  • Participate in the Bell & Evans’ Internal Audit Committee by conducting audits of the SQF system, food safety system, and records for all sites.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Bell & Evans business systems (Innova, SafetyChain) in order to support implementation at multiple sites.
  • Takes a proactive role in assuring safe, quality products are produced by immediately addressing any safety or quality concerns. Participate actively in all company meetings.
  • Provide support to the Quality Assurance department by developing a knowledge of the business to participate in projects, internal and external audits, and other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Independent Contributor; no direct reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field and 3+ years’ experience as a quality assurance professional in an FDA/USDA-regulated food facility; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certifications in Advanced HACCP and/or PCQI for Human or Animal Food required
  • Experience with GFSI audit schemes required; SQF experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, regulatory authorities, 3rd party auditors, and varying levels of employees throughout the organization
  • Detail oriented and experience with record keeping
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment


FOOD SAFETY:

  • Take a proactive role in assuring safe, quality products are produced by immediately addressing any safety or quality concerns. This position will serve as the back-up for the Sanitation Supervisor.
